Preparation decides the result
The best paint on a damp, dusty or flaking wall fails early. Fix the cause of the damp first, scrape back loose paint, fill the cracks, and let repairs dry before the first coat. Metal needs rust taken off before it is coated. None of this is on the paint invoice, but it decides whether you repaint in a few years or much sooner.
Buy so it matches later
- Buy each shade for an area in one go where you can, so the whole wall comes from the same batch.
- Write down the brand, product and shade code for every area and keep it with the building's records.
- Keep one tin of each shade back for touch-ups after the fitters and the furniture have moved in.
